Peter N. Conlin, 1 of The 70.
Having been born & raised in church, I have witnessed many things within the body of Christ. Great moves of the Holy Spirit. Inspiring sermons. Powerful worship. Incredible altar calls.
And the disturbing...leadership failures. Congregation splits and departures. Disappointments from Pastors and staff alike. Financial woes that have affected the impact a church was able to make through a certain ministry or the lack of funds to make an event even possible.
I believe, in light of the events that have transpired in recent years, that church members and attenders will rely more and more on the church and its pastors and leaders to help them persevere through life here on earth. The effectiveness of pastors to accomplish this will depend largely on their ability to manage their personal lives outside the church. If the body of Christ fails to care for its pastors, how can we reasonably expect pastors to care for their congregations?

This has been on my heart for a little more than a year, late 2011. As a conservative estimate, if only 1000 pastors were leaving the ministry per month, then over 12,000 are gone, while I have dropped the ball, to take an active role in helping prevent pastoral burn-out. If it were only 100/month, it's still way too many.
More than a stable government, a stable economy, safe schools, gainful employment or anything else, we need stable families.
It starts with matters of the heart. Only one profession has the tools and training and resources to speak on such matters.
We need stable, consistent and balanced church leadership. I know I do. Be 1 of the 70.
